200 Families Faire of Land Clipping

One house has clipped into the river and left the wall stand alone. Other house, which its part is in the water, might clip into the water too.
Sitting in the blue tan with the hand is cutting cucumbers next to the sack of clothes and rice. Kau Sophy, 27, decided to move her house in the night which locates just 5m far from the clip. “I moved the house in the night from 9 o’clock to 2 o’clock in the morning,” Kau Sophy said.
While many people move their house, other have not decided yet to move and waited to see the sequent events. Bech Sophal, 55, is sitting and look at the river clip with once speech shows her scariness. She said, “I could not even take the equipments out of my house, if it clipped as that night”.
Many people blame to the sand pumping company which caused this clipping. They said if it was clipped because of the natural disaster, the clip flow very little, but this land clip to much in short time. However, we cannot ask for any common from Mr. Sok Kong, who is the director of sand pumping company, because he was having a meeting on the twelve of December. But Mr. Nheum Vannda, Deputy Director of National Committee for Disaster Management, said that this clipping is not the company’s mistake.
Nheum Vannda added that Sokimic is not wrong because it is too far from here, do not confuse that this clipping is because of Sokimic Company because the clip drop from 20m, but the company just pumps for 6 to 7m. It cannot flow from the high to the bottom, if the company pumps for 20m, and the clip flows in 6m, it will flow down.
However, the municipal has ordered to stop the sand pumping company temporarily since the night of clipping, and waits to see the technical group, if the clip flow because of the company, the municipal will suggest to stop the pumping in that area.
Mao Hack, who is a director of watery department of the Ministry of Water and Weather Forecasting, explains the reason of water in that area that the situation of the land here is sandy and it is easier to clip when there is a curios flow of water. There are two water ways here. First, when the water rises, it flow forward this island and cause to clip sometimes. Second, when the water flows down, it brings some of the sand and cause that land is tender.
People suggest the authority to fill up the land and build the barrier to protect the clip next time. Replying to this suggestion, NCDM has been filling the sand to offer back the land to the people.
Nheum Vannda said, “we have filled for 30% of 74m deep and 95m wide by using 100,000m3”. Even though the authority fill up the sand, the expert estimates and warns that the land might clip again if we do not take the technical measurement.
Mao Hack added that if the authority does not have clear measurement, it might clip again because this island is in front of the water. If the water flows faster, the land will clip.
Relating to the technical in pumping the sand, Mr. Mao Hack explained that when the pumping is too deep, it cannot continue and it must find other place to pump especially in the shallow place.
Many sand pumping companies are pumping legally and illegally in the river in Cambodia. Most of them are Vietnamese who pump the sand both in the morning and night without the authorization. Since the sand pumping has started, islands, river clips, houses, and trees were destroyed.
Recently, the government allowed SUKAKOIN Company to pump the sand from island in front of the Royal Palace to fill up Boeng Kork which has 133 hectors. It is not known whether it will effect to the sand in front of the palace or not.
