A Monk Robs Beggar in the Pagoda

Battambang Province: A monk was defrocked immediately by Sovann Botharam Thmor Koul pagoda’s supreme patriarch in the morning of May 11, 2007 after the police found out that the monk had committed the crime by attacking a beggar man with a cleaver in order to robbed him of more than 2 billions Riel (about 500 U.S dollars), causing him serious injury in his head.
The robbery happened at 9:30 pm on 10 of May 2007 while a beggar man and his son was staying at the pagoda- Bouyong village, Tha Phoung commune, Thmor Koul district, Battambang.
The 19-year-old monk who was detained by police known as Khim Huo and was born at Phoum 42, Bouy Beth commune, Ou Chrov district, Bantay Meanchay province, police said.
Police added that the victim known as Moeng Poeng, 51, and his son are from Svay Rieng Provice.
