Accelerating achievement of the Cambodia Millennium Development Goals
Thursday, December 02, 2010
Phnom Penh: To accelerate progress of the Cambodia Millennium Development Goals (CMDGs), the Ministry of Planning has developed CMDG scorecards that are ready for dissemination. A workshop launching the scorecards will be held on Monday, 6 December, and journalists are invited to cover this event.
H.E. Chhay Than, Senior Minister and Minister of Planning, will preside over the launch to be joined by other government officials and representatives of development partners, international organizations and non-governmental organizations.
Ms. Elena Tischenko, Country Director of UNDP Cambodia, will give a speech highlighting the significance of the scorecards in helping to accelerate CMDG achievement up to 2015, the target year of global efforts to reduce poverty by half.
The CMDG scorecards have been developed with support from UNDP. Generated from Commune Database, they are a planning, monitoring and advocacy tool identifying areas where planners have done well and where they need improvement in relation to CMDGs achievement. The scorecards will help to guide planners to better focus on local priorities and advocate for resource allocation for local development initiatives.
The tool has been tested and disseminated to all 24 provincial and city planning departments. The launch is aimed at raising awareness about the scorecards at the national level, thereby mobilizing more support for sub-national administration in advancing CMDG progress.
