Afraid of Violence, Police Block Kampuchea Krom Monks

Kandal: Committing suicide of a Khmer Kampuchea Krom monk by cutting his neck with a big knife is still complicated. For the case, that police and other monks found that the monk committed suicide involving with drug using is not believe by Kampuchea Krom monks. They are suspicious of murdering and demand for the investigation. Because of the suspicion, it caused unrest but police still claim that the dead had used drug that made him lost body control till committed suicide. Khmer Kampuchea Krom Monk Association confirmed that the dead monk had never consumed drug.Related to the suicide, though it was revealed in details from authority police, Khmer Kampuchea Krom Association monks do not agree and also ask the authority to recheck the corps but the authority did not admit.
In the morning on 16-March-07 about 50 Khmer Kampuchea Krom Association monks left Phnom Penh for Tror Nom Chreung pagoda located in Kchao village, Beung Tom commune, Angsnoul district, Kandal province. The leaving of the monks is to make the ceremony to pray for the dead monk but they were blocked by Angsnoul district police and the police said that they were afraid of any violence between Khmer Kampuchea Krom monks, the head of the monk and followers of Tror Nom Chreung pagoda because the accuse of Khmer Kampuchea Krom monks seems to make Tror Nom Chreung pagoda lose honor.
According to the report of the Commitment Committee of Association Organization for Cambodian Human Right Protection issued on 16-March-07 showed the disappointment on the action of authority police that blocked the monks, Khmer Kampuchea Krom people and Human Right groups from going to hold the ceremony.
