Wednesday, February 10, 2010
Phnom Penh: In the BBC series “THE ASIAN INVASION” film expert Jonathan Ross travels to Japan, Hong Kong and Korea to explore the world's most innovative cinema. He meets Asia's most talked about actors and directors and shares his passion for all aspects of Asian filmmaking with many clips. Part One leads us to Tokyo, where Ross surveys the current crop of Japanese films, including the tale of a squid turned championship wrestler. This TV documentary is followed by Takashi Miike’s “HAPPINESS OF THE KATAKURIS” (2001, 113mins). The Japanese cult director taps the lighter, cuter side of Japan's Dadaist pop culture into a fable and meditation on family ties.
