Authority Fire Accommodations on Prevention Land

Preah Vihear province: 128 small accommodations that people has built up to make a new village on a prevention point about 3 kilometers from south Sror Yang village, Sror Yang commune, Kulan district, Preah Vihear province were fired by about 100 army forces-both army and police on 16-March-07. The residents were force to leave their cottages without delaying. In the event to force people to get out home, there was serious protesting from residents that live there that some were trying to stop the fire.In the event, army police did not allow journalist to intervene and it was reported that there was serious facing between people and police. Army police shot into the air and the land to threaten residents who tried to stop the fire.
Mr. Pol Kamnare deputy police of forest administration in the north of Tonle Sab Lake said that he did like this because of the order from upper people that these residents build houses along the path on the prevention land that it affects forest and environment. He added that the residents were already informed but they still lived there.
Hundreds of people said and call for with tear that some of them came to live here three years ago and some two years ago that they all are very poor. First they came to work in the bean field in Sror Yang commune and they thought that they had live here for a bit long so they suggested commune’s head to register as Sror Yang villager, but permanent villagers did not permit them to own any land. So after they decided to cleared forest to live about three kilometer from south Sror Yang village and they were registered as Sror Yang villager-totaled 200 families. But on 16-March-07 Mr. Hem Visal ordered to fire their houses include clothes, family documents, and voting cards.
