Friday, November 27, 2009
Phnom Penh: Tonight Toni Shapiro-Phim, dance ethnologist and director of research and archiving at the Khmer Arts Academy, is introducing a new “dance film series” at Meta House to encourage an appreciation of the breadth of dance traditions. STRICTLY BALLROOM (Australia, 1992, 94mins) by Baz Luhrmann is a romantic comedy, which tells the story of Australian ballroom dancer Scott Hastings who comes from a family of dancers. When he tries to introduce innovative steps into his performance routine, he meets great resistance. His dancing partner Liz leaves him, and he eventually finds a new dancing partner, and love, with the plain and ordinary dancing student Fran.
