Demolish Dey Krohorm, People Unsatisfy

At 6.00.am in dawn, Dey Krohorm in Chamka Morn had the noisy sounds that appeared by the scream of people and the sound of trucks. Dey Krohorm were tore down by several 7NG workers on January 24, 2009. This eviction destroyed many properties of Dey Krohorm people.
Many small houses were falling down step by step because of the machinery force and smoke, upper to the air by the effect of smoking bombs. Smoking bombs were thrown to the people while those people were protesting to the official and 7NG representative.
“I have nothing, my refrigerator, radio, television, and other materials were cover in ground” Teing Kimtheoung, people at Dey Krohorm said in weep. Teing Kimtheoung, 53 year-old, has lived in Dey Krohorm since 1990.Her house, size 7 x 10, was fallen by the tractor.
Other people in Dey Krohorm, Touch Ratha age 49 and widow who has to feed her children told in sad and tear “nothing, nothing, I do not know where my children and I should go”. She do not want to live Borey Sotepeap II where is 20 kilometer far from here. She wants to live in center of city, because her children can study a lot, and she can work easily.
Dey Krohorm is land concession by government since 2003. Because of development in Dey Krohorm, municipality moved people to the Dom Nak Trayeng village, Chaom Chao district, Dong Kor commune, Phnom Penh, basing on the agreement which the 36 community representation signed with 7NG.
1.374 families, 93% of 1465 Dey Krohorm families went to live in Borey Sontepeap II, remain 91 families do not move by saying that their representative sign on agreement without their acceptation. This became the quarrel almost 3 years ago. This problem occurs between Dey Krohorm people and 7NG.
The quarrel situation still keeps long and cannot reach the good solution. On 24 January before Chinese New Year a day, the hundreds of 7NG workers in clothes red and blue were sanding in Dey Krohorm evicted people.
Whereas, there are a lot of forces in there examine and keep safety to people in eviction.
Mr. Am Sam Ath, technical supervisor of LICADHO said “This violent eviction affect to the human right that lose the properties and settlement of people”.
Mr. Him Yan, deputy of police chief, said “Police force put here since 5 o’clock and start cooperated at 6.00.am”. “This cooperation do not use violence, just evict people to be easy in working” he added.
Mr. Man Chheoun, deputy of municipality, said “This eviction is organizing house of people, because there are new house in there, and have market, factory, school, and hospital.”
Mr. Man Chheoun continued “Solution will have for Dey Krohorm people, and it can turn to the first choice that each family receive $15,000 if people do not accept a flat at Borey Sontepeap II”
Aunt Ret age 47, Dey Kroohorm people, said “I do not know about this demolish, and having tractor to do this”. “First there is throwing the smoking bombs and a short conflict, I do not want involve in that, but I am out of control by frightening of losing house, I start to fight with forces” She said, adding.
Aunt Ret continued in sad and hopeless “I do not know who I can depend on; I would suggest government and GNOs to help”
Ly Youleng ages 62year-old, Dey Krohorm people, said “if government and NGOs cannot help, I will die. No land, no house, how can I survive? I will die because Dey Krohorm if there is no good solution”.
Mr. Srey Sothear, representative of 7NG, said “Company will take action only 91 families named the list of 1,465 families. For solution, 7NG will follow the previous agreement of Dey Krohorm community and company”. “The exchange as money, company does not decide whether or not, it base on the negotiation between 7NG and people” He added.
Srey Sothear suggested people hurry to check in their family in list in order to be easy for company to solve this problem ealier. “Up to now, there may be 40 families already accept taking flat which in Borey Sontepeap II”. Srey Sothear said.
After demolish, people of Dey Krohorm were move to Borey Sontepeap II for temporary action until company can give the good solution to them.
