“Although I am hit or even my house is rushed away, I still to be here because it is where I find my life!” a sentence sounded from a crowed of reporters interviewing Mrs. Dul Chantha, an inhabitant at Dey Kraham who refuses not to change her residency.
Because of her proper career since she has been living in Dey Kraham for years, Mrs. Dul Chantha refused to live in a new residency, “How can I change my place if my family are entirely work in Phnom Penh. For me I can earn more than 50000 Riel per day by selling some products at home and rent shell carts for people who live in here. My daughter works in Phnom Penh, so we do not care much either on her travel fair or on her everyday safety. What the reason that I want to change my place?” said Dul Chantha.
A seller at Dey Kraham, NGET Teourn also denied to change her home, “If I change place from here, my family will faces in trouble”, said NGET Teourn, “I sell some small products at home. My husband and children are working in Phnom Penh. Dey Kraham is the only place that counts as my shelter for my family’s everyday occupations.
Touch Sopheap, one of those live in Dey Kraham described about her family’s comfortable work since she has lived in Dey Kraham. She said, “My husband is a motor driver in Phnom Penh, who can find some profit to integrate with my small profit that I find from my selling products at home. Besides this, my daughter works at ZAMAN International School, where stands near my home, so I don’t have any reasons to live in a new residency at all.”
Dey Kraham representative, CHAN Vichet said Dey Kraham people could not accept the 20000 dollars as the value for changing their residencies because people here can do their jobs with good infrastructures such as hospital that place near homes and School where their children can attend. 20000 Dollars is not an equality amount that replies for people moving from their workable place to a new residency that stands so far from city or their work places.
Mr. Mann Chheourn, Phnom Penh co-municipal said in a newspaper conference on 13 January that focused on Dey Kraham conflict. He said, “Borey SantepheapII where locates in Damnak Trayeung District, Dangkor Quarter, is not complicated for local people’s career because the new place has a workable market that people can work for their own businesses. Moreover, it has factories, which contain approximately 2000 workers describable as a part-sharing job for people inhabit there. Besides this, Borey SantepheapII also creates a transportation service for local people whose work places located in Phnom Penh.
Mr. Srey Sothea, the 7NG general manager claimed that his company has established a market in SantepheapII contains 600 sellers; two factories that load more than 2000 workers and transportation service for those who work in Phnom Penh.
Mrs. Chourb Lun, Fried banana seller seemed unrevealed her critical sense of living in SantepheapII, “When I lived in Dey Kraham, I didn’t have any occupation to do, but after I have changed to live here, I could fine a proper and specific job to do.”
The money exchanger, Shou Penn also said that in Borey SantepheapII is not difficult to run a job for her because all people who live there always come to change their money at her exchange store.”
Oppose to what the two sellers at Borey SantepheapII have mentioned, Mrs. Kong Sokha and Mr. Noun Muni also sell their products at SantepheapII who said that in Phnom Penh was easier to work than in BoreySantepheapII, “Here, I find it difficult to sell out my products because most of people here are entirely work as sellers. There are fewer amounts of people who come to buy things in the market.”
She complained that, “I have to pay 50 dollars per year on my store’s price and another 1500 Riels pay on market environment and the security. If I don’t pay, 7NG Company will confiscate my store.”
At the time she could not sell out her products, Kong Sokha would appeal to 7NG Company either not to increase the store price or think about water and electricity service for people who live in Borey SantepheapII.
The same to what Kong Sokha has complaint, Doung Kim Eng; the porridge seller said that her nowadays selling is stuck in trouble to sell out. Sometimes she lost in her business, “It is very hard to sell out my porridge because most of people are sellers. I can earn only 10000 Riels per day. If pay on food electricity or water, I have no even 100 Riels left for me.” Said Doung Kim Eng.
Mr. Kim Yann is a Borey SantepheapII leader. He stated that, “It really difficult for people who inhabit here because Borey SantepheapII is a new establishment and the number of people who live here is also less, so it makes some difficulties for sellers to sell out their products. One other difficulty is that it is far from Phnom Penh. In other words, we lack of water and electricity in use.”
Related to the water issue in Borey SantepheapII, Mr. Srey Sothea said that his company has cooperated with Boeng Kak authority in order to link water system for people in Borey SantepheapII to use in a sooner time.
Be remember that Dey Kraham conflict has been occurring for long times between people in that local and 7NG Company. Later on, 1374 families accepted to live in a new placed, but other 91 denied the acceptation. Just until 24 January 2009, 7NG Company came to confiscate Dey Kraham land from the inhabitants. Therefore, right now we could not define the future of those people yet after they have moved from Dey Kraham by the authority suppression.
