Phnom Penh: on Friday this week, there will be a show called GETTING HIGH: THE HISTORY OF LSD & REQUIEM FOR A DREAM
The film “GETTING HIGH – A HISTORY OF LSD” (2001, 50mins) explores the legacy of LSD with the help of famous authors Tom Wolfe and Jay Stephens. We’ll visit the lab where Swiss scientist Albert Hoffman first synthesized the drug in 1943, and examine the controversial tests conducted by the CIA. See how Timothy Leary and Aldous Huxley brought the drug into the public eye, while singer Grace Slick shares tales of her encounters with acid. This is followed by Darren Aronofsky’s feature film “REQUIEM FOR A DREAM” (2000, 102 mins): Doing their best to succeed in the world, but failing miserably, four people get hooked on various drugs.
