host a national launch of the 2010 Education For All Global Monitoring Report (GMR) Reaching the Marginalized on 26 April, 2010

Saturday, April 24, 2010

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, UNESCO Office in Phnom Penh and Global Campaign for Education (GCE)—a globally recognized NGO network—will host a national launch of the 2010 Education For All Global Monitoring Report (GMR) Reaching the Marginalized on 26 April,  2010.

During the Education For All-Global Action Week in April 2010, UNESCO Office in Phnom Penh is organizing, together with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and the Global Campaign for Education (GCE), a national launch of the 2010 EFA Global Monitoring Report (GMR) Reaching the Marginalized. The event will feature speeches by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, Representative of UNESCO, GCE representatives, and a member of the Advisory Board of the EFA GMR.

On 19 January 2010, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Ms. Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, launched the 2010 GMR Reaching the Marginalized at the UN headquarters. The 2010 GMR warns that there will be a lost generation of children if they are denied the right to education. The Report examines who these children are, why they are left behind, and also, how to reach these marginalized groups.

Education for All, adopted by the World Education Forum held in Dakar in April 2000, aims to provide quality basic education for all children, youth and adults by 2015. By promoting the launch of the 2010 GMR, UNESCO seeks to ensure the development of effective policies and concrete actions that reach out to all those excluded from the education system so that all children, youth and adults will have access to quality education by 2015.

The national launch of the GMR in Cambodia aims to raise awareness and bring attention to the education of the marginalized through sharing global perspectives on the GMR and best practices. The launch will gather participants from the MoEYS and other concerned ministries, development partners and NGOs. The event will be held on 26 April, 2010 at the Cambodiana Hotel in Phnom Penh.

The EFA Global Action Week is organized and funded by DVV International, Save the Children Norway, UNESCO, NGO Education Partnership, Voluntary Service Overseas, World Vision Cambodia, ActionAid, Aide et Action, Disability Action Council, CARE, Australian Red Cross, AusAID, USAID, World Education, Deaf Development Program, PLAN International, Shanti Volunteer Association, and GCE International in partnership with a large group of local and international NGOs working in the education sector in Cambodia.
