Initial Hearing for Kaing Guek Eav alias Duch

The initial hearing of Kaing Guek Eav, better known as Duch starts from 17 February and it just ends today about 13 pm. For the first day of the hearing there were about more than 1,000 people went to participate the hearing of Duch, chief of Toul Sleng prison.
According to a press release of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal during two days of the hearing, the court talk about applications for the admission of civil parties, protective measures sought by these parties, preliminary legal and procedural issues that might have an impact on the conduct of the trial on the substance of the allegations.
It also finalized the scheduling of witnesses and experts to be heard at the trial. Neither the accused nor any witnesses, experts and civil parties spoke at the initial hearing on any matters of substance. On the basis of information received at the initial hearing, the court’s President, in consultation with the other members of the Trial Chamber, will shortly fix the date of the commencement of the substantive hearing. This is expected to occur soon.
