JAPANESE MASTER AT WORK: AKIRA KUROSAWA’S “RAN”
Tuesday, January 12, 2010
Phnom Penh: On Sunday (17-01-10) a JAPANESE MASTER AT WORK: AKIRA KUROSAWA’S “RAN”
will be screening. A giant of 20th-century cinema, Japanese director Akira Kurosawa holds a unique place among the world's most distinguished filmmakers. Chris Marker's 77 minute documentary “A.K.” records the French film maker's several days on location with Mr. Kurosawa during the production of “RAN”'. But the film focuses more on Kurosawa's remote but polite personality than on the making of “RAN” (1895, 162mins), which will be screened afterwards. Kurosawa tells the story of a War Lord, who has decided to step aside to make room for his three sons. Hiroaki Higuchi, lecturer at the Cambodian Mekong University and a film expert, presents our “Japanese Film night”.
