KR Tribunal Will Sentences Duch in March

Phnom Penh: The Khmer Rouge Tribunal decided to sentence the former chief of Tuol Sleng prison Kaing Guek Eav alias Duch in March after the two days meeting at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Court of Cambodia (ECCC). Duch, who is charged with the war crimes and crimes against humanity, is considered the first former Khmer Rouge leader who got sentenced. However, the Khmer Rouge Tribunal spokesman Reach Sambath said that the specific date of Duch’s sentence will announce later. The five former Khmer Rouge leaders, who are detained at ECCC, are Nuon Chea, Ieng Sary, former deputy prime minister in charge of foreign affairs; Khieu Samphan, former head of state; Ieng Thirith, former social affairs; and Kaing Guek Eav, alias Duch.
