Phnom Penh: The 52-year-old elephant known as Sambo allowed to be retired last week after serving in tour at Wat Phnom for about 30 years.
Phnom Penh Capital Hall is pleased and would like to thanks for the public concern over and attention to the health of SAMBO elephant through emails. Nowadays, the ageing SAMBO has been under medical treatment by its owner in a private plot of land.
Phnom Penh Capital Hall is currently negotiating with the owner in order to take SAMBO to a sanctuary outside Phnom Penh. Additionally, the authority would like the public to be more understanding as the reason that SAMBO had been put in to service for tourists at Wat Phnom only because its owner needed income to support his life.
