Dear Reporters/Editors,

The Ministry of Environment will organise a workshop to discuss work plan for implementation under the Cambodia Climate Change Alliance (CCCA), a multi-donor funded initiative aimed at assisting Cambodia in addressing climate change-related impacts on its development. You are cordially invited to attend this workshop to be held at place and time indicated above.

H.E. Dr. Mok Mareth, Senior Minister and Minister of Environment, Chairman of National Climate Change Committee, and Mr. Rafael Dochao-Moreno, EU Delegation Chargé d’Affaires, will preside over the event and deliver keynote speeches.

The workshop marks a significant step since the launch of the CCCA initiative in February. The initiative is supported by US$8.9 million from the European Union, SIDA, DANIDA, and UNDP for the period from 2010 to 2012. After the launch an implementation team involving key stakeholders has been formed to work out implementation arrangements to align work under the initiative with the national priorities.

The aim of the workshop on 18 August is to assist the programme team to understand and take ownership of the objectives and the expected results of the programme. It will also include, among other issues, review of the progress made during the inception phase, discussion of grant guidelines, discussion of capacity development approach and harmonisation and expected results of the work of the initiative’s first year, 2010-2011.

A media briefing will be held for journalists during the break of the morning session.
