Meta House Creening

Tuesday, November 03, 2009

Phnom PEnh: Before the annual Water Festival starts (and Meta House closes from Sunday, November 1st until Wednesday, November 4th) we invite you cordially for two more screenings @ Meta House:

* Tonite, FRI, 7PM, it will be “SHADOW OVER ANGKOR” (1969, 110min) by H.R.H. Norodom Sihanouk. His most important film uncovers an international plot to topple the Cambodian government. The army and the state secret service work together to foil the plot with help from the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The nation makes the point of vowing to destroy any aggressive enemies. Not long after the release of this film, which pointed out the failure of the U.S. sponsored plot, president Richard Nixon ordered round-the-clock bombing of the country.

* Tomorrow, SAT, 7 PM we are lauching our new dance film series in cooperation with the prestigious Khmer Arts Ensemble (Artistic Director: Sophiline Cheam Shapiro). Toni Shapiro-Phim, dance ethnologist and director of research and archiving at Khmer Arts, is presenting Carlos Saura’s “BLOOD WEDDING” (1981, 72min) – the depiction of a singe flamenco dress rehearsal. The artists are filmed in innovative and stunning ways as they rehearse an adaptation of Federico Garcia Lorca’s tale of a wedding undone by family vendettas.

Please be our guest!

*

After the festival you should reserve the dates for the 6th International Music Festival (5th – 9th November 2009, schedule below) – initiated by ART+Foundation, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, the German Embassy and the Goethe Institute Germany.
