Tuesday, February 23, 2010
Phnom Penh: There will be a Launching of Cambodian Climate Change Alliance (CCCA) on Thursday (25-02-10) at the Ministry of Environment. The CCCA marks the latest approach taken by the Royal Government of Cambodia to address impacts of climate change on the country’s socio-economic development and to tap emerging opportunities for green growth.
The approach will be supported by the Climate Change Trust Fund which has so far secured approximately US$8.9 million in contribution from various development partners, namely the EU (US$3.2 million), UNDP (US$3 million), Sida (US$2.1 million), and Danida (US$0.5 million).
The contribution marks a significant step following the First National Forum on Climate Change in October 2009, where calls for financial support were made to help Cambodia to minimize impacts of climate change and pursue more environment-friendly policies and practices.
HE Dr. Mok Mareth, Senior Minister and Minister of Environment, Mr. Rafael Dachao Moreno, Chargé d’Affairs a.i. of the EU Delegation to Cambodia, and Mr. Jo Scheuer, Country Directory of UNDP Cambodia, will formally launch the CCCA at the ceremony.
