Ou Vireak will become new CCHR president

Cambodian Center for Human Rights advocay program director Ou Vireak will become new CCHR president while the former president, Kem Sokha will resign and return to politic.Ou Vireak said that the US-based International Republican Institute, which has funded CCHR for the past 4 years, will stop funding next month. The CCHR has received up to $1 million annually over the past four years from International Republican Institute.
Kem Sokha will resign on May 1 in order to form the Human Rights Party to compete in the 2008 national election.
Ou Vireak added that CCHR would remain independent and have no affililiation with Human Rights Party. (From The Cambodia Daily)
