PM: Village Election Not Have In Cambodia Constitution

Because village election chiefs don’t writ in Cambodia constitution, an unnamed political party was warned by Prime Minister Hun Sen about saying that Cambodia should have popular election for village chiefs. It violets the law, he added.
The opposition party Sam Riansy wanted to organize new popular election for village chiefs last week. Sam Riansy party also called on commune councils that’s under controlling of SRP to urge holding popular election for village chiefs.
SRP’s proposal did not mention about new popular election for village chiefs. The Prime Minister and the Interior Ministry have quickly judged to conclusion without actually listening to the SRP’s proposal. The SRP have no intention to organize village election,SRP Secretary –General Mu Sochuo said.
SRP won commune chief position in 28 of the country’s 1,621 communes, with the CPP taking 1,591 and Funcipec wining just two, this is according to this year’s commune elections on 1-April-2007.
