Ports No Longer Received Cash For Import Tax
Thursday, April 19, 2007
For importing more than $1,000 worth of goods to Cambodia, the Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville ports do not receive import tax payment in cash from companies and individual importing. Moreover, from 1-April-2007, tax paid on goods brought in through the two parts must be paid by check to the National Bank of Cambodia or through an account set up at the NBC.
The new payment system was better than before. It saves time and to lower the amount of damaged bill and counterfeit currency being submitted to the customers offices.
The new payment system is a more efficient way to keep track of tax generated by imports, a senior NBC official said.
The official added that this is a good new payment system and will allow custom officials to have detail report for how much money is collected from importers month by month. If the new payment system works well, it will be expended to all customer offices in the country.
