Rarely Seen In The West: “Young and Restless In China”
Tuesday, March 09, 2010
China’s economy is considered the economic wonder of the world. Filmmaker Sue Williams portraits the lives of five wildly ambitious graduates, a hip hop artist, two migrant workers, a dedicated medical resident and a courageous environmental activist. “YOUNG & RESTLESS IN CHINA” (2008, 106mins) captures the highs and lows of coming of age. A driving soundtrack of Chinese rock and hip hop music and scenes of Chinese life rarely seen in the West, buoy the film. The night is opened with Sokuntevy Oeur’s video dairy “ANOTHER CAMBODIA” (2009, 6mins). The Khmer female artist documents her first residency in Yunnan province. This will be on Thursday at 7 pm.
