RISE UP, film show at Meta HOuse

Phnom Penh: On Thursday this week, a film named “RISE UP!” will be showed at Meta House.Cambodia suffers from the effects of cultural models that are demeaning of poor and/or disabled people. In the new doc film RISE UP! (2009, 30mins) Khmer director Chum Reap and M.E.T.A. film students follow “success stories” of disabled Cambodians, who received vocational training through the NGO “Handicap International” in Battambang Province. Protagonists and filmmakers will be present at the screening (Q&A), which is followed by the film “AKI RA’S BOYS” (2007, 57mins), Singaporean filmmakers James Leong & Lynn Lee tell the story of Aki Ra, a former Khmer Rouge child soldier, who hopes to make amends by giving land mine victims a home…
