The Magic of The Banjo: Throw down Your Heart
Wednesday, February 10, 2010
Phnom Peh: This will be show on Thursday this week at seven pm. The bond between a musician and his instrument is a mystical one. Without him the instrument is mute; without instrument, the musician's soul is voiceless. This is a story of how Bela Fleck, America's most celebrated banjoist, went on a quest in search of his musical soulmate’s African roots. Though there is a stated purpose to the trip, to disassociate the banjo from its stereotype as a white southern instrument, it is Béla’s delightful and subtle resistance to being catalogued in a familiar pattern that gives this film (2008, 92mins) its particular force.
