Phnom Penh: Tonight, (TUES, 01/12, 6.30 PM) there is an opening of Eva Leitolf's “GERMAN IMAGES – LOOKING FOR EVIDENCE” in the framework of the PHNOM PENH PHOTO FESTIVAL (presented by the CCF).
A 1997 graduate of the California Institute of the Arts, Eva Leitof has received various prizes, such as the ICP Annual Infinity Award (New York). She has exhibited at the Rencontres de la Photographie in France (1997), at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (2000) and in a number of intern. galleries.
For her first show in Phnom Penh Eva Leitolf turns her attention to racist crimes in Germany and the ways they are discussed in society. She doesn’t care about the news, only to be where the events take place. It’s only the day after, sometimes later, that she goes and notes the marks of racist acts. Sometimes they are still visible. Sometimes they are not and places seem to be absolutely normal.
Eva Leitolf contributes to an on-going discussion of how to eliminate xenophobia and racism within a globalized world. Although Germany is far from Cambodia, we believe that this issue is also of high interest to Khmer people in relation to Cambodia’s past, present and future.
The French Cultural Centre, the German Goethe Institute and Meta House invite you to visit Eva Leitolf’s important exhibition.
