Youth of Dey Kroham abandon school when move to New land

Thursday, February 12, 2009 - Editor: Tiep Seiha

By Chheng Sambo

There are families from Dey Kroham, who moved to the new land, are facing school and a living problem. It is because the school is so far from their living place and people are difficult to earn a living. Some students continue their study at Chumpo One and Pong Teouk high school where they are 5 to 8 kilometers from the resident.

Students are facing the intricacy because they do not have any means to arrive the school quickly. However, other well living standard families they can find the underlying cause of it quite easy for their children but for those who are impossible stop them from school or let them help in business.

“Facing the living standard; I am impracticable to continue my children’s learning as well as the school is so far away,” said Ry Sophea, a seller from Dey Kroham.

Lay Lina, a perfume seller at Borey Peace II, complained, “This develop land does not have enough school so I send my sister and brother to study at Phnom Penh.”

“School is away from my house and there is not enough room even the toilet does not work,” Pech SreyNich, a student, complained.

As a solution, Rong Chhun, head of Cambodia Independent Teacher Association, said that the exchanging house’s Dey Kroham people was the state responsibility along with a fair reimbursement match to the market price. If their house cost twenty to forty thousand dollars and they get only twenty thousand dollars, it is not fair.

“People support a develop policy but this guiding principle must provide them live in a proper place including enough running water, electric, school, and hospital. If anything contrasts to these, it means the state as well as the company abuse the human right,” Rong Chhun added.

“Students can go on with their study at Prey Speuo and Tropang Sala primary school where they are one kilometer from the local and 20% of the estimated student’s population who quitted the school,” said Kim Yan, representative Borey PeacII.

Srey Sothea, a general manager of 7NG company, rejoinder to the issue above that the Phnom Penh Municipal Court and 7NG Company distributed 5o plus 50 to construct a school building with two floors including 12 rooms to be a Junior High School at Tropan Sala pagoda.

“This construction will cost fourteen thousand dollars and as the first achievement ahead to provide the students convenience. Up to now the whole thing is in the process with the solving of building market and factory to help out the people living,” Srey Sothea stated.
Mun Chheuon, Vice-president of PP Municipal Court, claimed that both 7NG and the state are being effort to settle the people difficulty at the new community. He continued the major solution is to provide enough school. However, 7NG Company already gave four flats to be the kindergarten and primary school.

“With the new construction as a Junior High School will be very helpful to students especially the PP Municipal Court plan to build one more High School but it depend on the course of action of the development,’’ Mun Chheuon said.
